Another very early, kind-of-haphazard poem of mine. I really like the sentiment and some of the imagery, even if the structure and flow leave something to be desired. I also hope that I still believe the message. I remember life being so tough and, on paper, crap back then. But I was optimistic and happy. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves of that, I think.

It is What You Are. You Have No Choice But to Be. So Be.

Enlightenment shall rain down from the heavens,
and we, the enemies of apathy, shall stand unprotected,
receiving it with open hearts, open minds
and the open wounds of a life lived unafraid…

You are the conductor, the orchestra and the audience.
You are your own fear, your own love, your own hatred and your own master.
Nothing and no one determines your destiny.
You are a consequence of the flesh,
and your flesh bears the consequences of its own fallibility.
Responsibility is the only thing that is truly yours to take,
and it is there for the taking, so take it or it will take you.

It is truly what you make of it, and not what it makes of you,
but leave it to its own devices and you will unmake what is yet to be.
Power is yours.
It is both your right as well as your duty.
Fear is not real.
Nothing is as bad in the flesh as it is in the mind.

Love is free to give, and love can never be painful.
It’s the eleven herbs and spices of obfuscation in which we coat our love
Before we submerge it in putrid, burning oil
that leave a bitter taste in the mouth.
Love is free, so set it free and give of it freely.
Love does not understand prenuptial agreements,
guaranteed buy-back deals,
terms and conditions, the prime interest rate or your feelings of fear.
If you give love and expect nothing in return,
then you cannot be destroyed, threatened or belittled.
You will love unselfishly, and receive love in return.
The only way to love yourself is to send the love through other people.
Like a filter made of human souls, readying your love for a return to it’s home.

Apathy is the mind’s cancer. Fear is its severed spinal column.
It is never real. The power of retrospect illustrates this clearly.
Look back. Learn. Run forward.
Never turn back.

Dark, scary rooms are filled with treasure. Just flick the light switch inside you and you’ll see it.
