iRock Radio Ads for DStv

This was a cool brief that let me use my background as a rapper and musician, and my love of rhyme, to make something fun for DSTV, for whom I did a lot of work in the early/mid 2010s. These aired in, I think, 2014 or so.

iRock was a music festival in South Africa, and DStv (South Africa’s leading satellite TV network) was the headline sponsor. The concept was to create a rap song for the event itself, to use as the main ad.

I wrote the lyrics and the flow with a specific friend, emcee and VO artist in mind; Edward Obita, who I’ve used to voice a lot of ads, but also performed alongside as a musician for may years. I also chose DJ Redwood – a well-known South African hip-hop DJ and producer – to produce the track.

As well as the song execution for the campaign above, we also created a more “straight-forward/hardsell” retail ad, which also rotated as part of the campaign, which was also quite a fun one.
